Notes

This is one of the most accessible funds available. The local councillor (Cllr Marisa Heath) has £5,000 per year to allocate to community projects in the Runnymede/Englefield Green area. There is no competitive application — the councillor decides. The process is: email the councillor, explain the project, if they support it they send you a link to the online form.

This is primarily a relationship opportunity. A well-targeted email introducing WFBA and its outreach plans for September 2026 — especially the Year 4 school programme and beginner access — should appeal to a local councillor. The Local Government Association guidance encourages councillors to fund projects that benefit young people, community wellbeing, and local amenity.

Best use of funds: Instrument purchase (pBones, pBuzzes for beginner/outreach cohort) or a defined workshop series in a local school or community venue. Both are concrete, deliverable, and easy to evidence.

Realistic ask: £1,500–£3,000 for instrument purchase, or £2,000–£3,000 for a defined workshop programme at a local school. Do not ask for the full £5,000 at a first approach.

Timing: The 2026-27 cycle is expected to open in May 2026. Approach the councillor before the window opens so she is aware of the project. Emails to yccf@surreycc.gov.uk can confirm exact opening dates.
